SSIS-Logging

Description:

SSIS Logging is used to provide the logs information for the packages.These logs can be save in Text files, SQL Server, SQL Server Profiler, Window Event Log and XML Files.

 

By using SSIS logging, You can see the run-time information about the package.

 

Here, We are explaining how to use SSIS Logging step by step.

 


Step 1 : Drag and Drop “Data Flow Task” from SSIS Toolbox in Control flow and double clicked on it.






Step 2 : Once Clicked on data flow task, Drag drop OLE DB Source and OLE DB Destination from SSIS toolbox into data flow tab.






Step 3: Double click on OLE DB Source ,OLE DB Source Editor window will open to extract data from “Employee1” table.






Step 4: Click on “Columns” button to verify the columns.






Step 5: Double click on OLE DB Destination,OLE DB destination Editor window will open to load data into “SSISLogging” Table.



 

Here, We are creating “SSISLogging” Table.

 

CREATE TABLE [SSISLogging] (
    [ID] int,
    [Name] varchar(50),
    [Salary] numeric(18,0),
    [DepartmentID] int,
    [ContactNo] numeric(18,0)
)



Step 6: Click on “Mapping” button to verify the columns.






Step 7: Navigate the SSIS menu-->Logging to configure SSIS Logging.






Step 8 : Select a log provider in the Provider type list, and then click on Add button.


 


Provider type list in SSIS are following :


 

Provider Type

Description

SSIS Log Provider for SQL Server

Saves the Log information in the sysssislog table in Database

SSIS Log Provider for Text Files

Saves the Log information in CSV File

SSIS Log Provider for XML Files

Saves the Log information in XML file

SSIS Log Provider for Windows Event Logs

Saves the Log information in the local computer.

 

SSIS Log Provider for SQL Server Profiler

Saves the Log information in SQL Profiler

 

 

Step 9 : Once You clicked on Add button,In the Configuration column, select a connection manager or click <New connection> to create a new connection manager.

 





Step 10 : Click on the Details tab to configure the logs in-detail.

 



Here, We have selected the “OnInformation” event and click on “Save” button to save the log information in XML file.






Step 11 : Click on “Ok” button and execute the package.






Step 12 : Open the SSIS Logging Information file which is present in specified path.





Step 13 : Open the SSMS to preview the sysssislog table in database .
